Anger based on calculated reason is more
dangerous than anger based on blind hate.

Those were the words  she  had told  Christian,
& she believed every last one of them.     In fact,
it   was  almost  c o m i c a l  how  they  held  no
actual meaning to her nephew. Of course, they
were wise  —   but they were theory, free of any
specifics.

Specifics such as she had killed the queen.

Truly,  she  held  no  personal  grudges  against
Tatianna.    The  two  had  never  spoken  much,
after all. Her p o l i t i c s, however, were another
matter.      Had  she  been  anything  but  queen,
Tasha  might   have   ignored  her  ideas  of  age
decrees, Moroi cowering behind their guardians
Tasha’s  personal  lack  of  guardians,  which
were  not on her payroll —  among  a  thousand
other things they disagreed on.      But, as it had
been, Tatianna was expected to RULE for years,
and   Tasha   couldn’t   handle   the   thought  of
sixteen-year-olds    fending   for   men   in   their
thirties,   who were perfectly capable of learning
self-defense —   in more ways than just kicking
and punching.   It seemed so easy; just take out
the queen,   help Lissa on her way to the throne
&      end up practically running the Moroi world
yourself.

It  was  a  brilliant  plan,  really.           She  had  to
congratulate  herself.     And  the  fact  that  Rose
Hathaway
could take the fall made it even better.
Not  only  was it believable,  with her rouge years
and  screaming matches at  (because, face it, not
even  Rose  Hathaway  could  make  a queen yell
back) Tatianna, but she was an annoying brat as
well.

What seemed to be the  most  difficult part of the
plan,  though,  was to lie to Christian’s face. They
were all each other had,  and  it  pained her to see
him  so  worried  about  the murder.   She wished
that  he  hadn’t made friends with Rose,   but she
could  hardly  blame him for his involvement with
Lissa,   which  was  only  doing  the  family,    and
Tasha’s own plan,  good.   Lissa, too,  was  a little
too gentle for all of this mess,  but she attempted
to  see  the  girl  as  nothing  but  a  pawn   —   or,
perhaps, a rook. Adrian, on the other hand, could
fend   for   himself   &   the   new  guardian, Eddie,
seemed  tough,   too.   She   wasn’t   too   worried
about them.    No, Christian was her main priority,
and if he loved Lissa,       then she was on Tasha’s
list of innocents.

One name was missing from that list. But he
would soon join them. He just needed to get
to his senses first.
